The Mt. Lakes Police Department, volunteers from Mt. Lakes Senior Class and Northern NJ Safe KIds / Safe Communities joined forces under the direction of Sgt. Gil Benitez to hold a bike rodeo at the Wildwood School on June 7, 2018.
The 1st and 2nd grade children rode their bikes and scooters around the school grounds, visited 5 safety stations and then participated in the annual bike race around the track at the HS.
This day is a highlight of the school year and grows in participation. Children who did not have a helmet or had an ill fitting helmet were given one by Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communtities.
" I hope the skills reviewd today carry over throughout the summer and for years ahead. Cycling is a wonderful sport and has many health and environmental benefits", noted Sgt. Benitez.
Wishing all a happy summer with lots of peddling!
