Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communities celebrated the coalitions accomplishments for 2017 at an awards reception at the Garden Hilton Inn located in Rockaway NJ.
The community based coalition, which is led by the Trauma Service of Morristown Medical Center works with community leaders to minimize unintentional injuries and deaths at home, on the road and at play.
Hats off for Helmets Ski and Snowboard Logo Campaign
The winter of 2017-2018 blanketed NJ with a ton of snow. The extra snow days gave students additional time to prepare entries into the Hats off for Helmets Ski and Snowboard Logo Campaign. Over 150 entries were received from Students from local high schools and middle schools. Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communities received artwork that was prepared through digital and graphic arts, pencil, marker, acrylic and crayons.
Members of the department of surgery critically reviewed the entries and identified the winners.
Thanks to Mountain Creek for providing our 1st place winners with a season pass for 2018-2019 season and a triple play card for the 2nd place winners.

Each year Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communities recognizes and Individual and Organization that goes above and beyond to impact injury prevention programs to the local communities.
Outstanding Individual 2017
Dawn Gosson was the recipient of the Outstanding Individual for 2017. Dawn Gosson is a child passenger safety technician, Share the Keys Facilitator and works as a records clear at the Pompton Lakes Police Department. Dawn has been an active resource for her local and extended community. She has expanded the injury prevention efforts to include, child passenger safety, pedestrian safety and cycling safety.
Outstanding Organization 2017
Atlantic Ambulance – Phil Crowley, Bill Burke and Marvin Montgomery
Northern NJ Safe Kids / Safe Communities utilizes the garage at Atlantic Ambulance to hold its weekly Child Passenger Safety Inspection Station. Each week 30-40 families bring their car and children to the station to participate in a car seat inspection.
The Atlantic Ambulance Staff of Phil Crowley, Bill Burke and Marvin Montgomery work with the Child Passenger Safety Technicians to keep the garage open, accessible and injury free. Their work, makes the station a safe place to hold a program.
