Smoke alarms save lives. Did you know that smoke alarms are capable of detecting smoke long before it would be detected by a sleeping individual in your home? That is why property owners are responsible for making sure smoke alarms are installed in properties that people sleep in. Make sure your family is sleeping safe and sound by:
- Knowing which type of smoke alarm is in your home, hard-wired, main powered or battery powered.
- Checking your alarm on a regular basis. If it is a battery powered smoke alarm, check that it is working at least twice a year. A good rule is to check it at the start and end of daylight saving time.
- If you live in a big home make sure there is an acceptable number of alarms installed throughout the house and that the alarm can be heard throughout the entire home.
