Take it from a Teen Video Contest

Calling ALL Creative TEENS,

Safe Kids and program sponsor General Motors are excited to announce a new project and opportunity that will address and promote teen drivers and passengers being safe in the car. We in the injury prevention field know all too well the risks that teens face in cars. More than 2,300 teenagers die each year in motor vehicle crashes and in more than half of the deaths, the teenager was not wearing a seat belt. Teens also account for 76 percent of motor vehicle crash fatalities among children 19 and under.

The Take It From A Teen Video Challenge is a special opportunity for teens 13-19 years of age who live in areas where there are Safe Kids coalitions. Safe Kids Worldwide will promote the project through our social media outlets, and we encourage our coalitions to do so as well to help build local interest. We’ll also promote to the General Motors network of dealerships, so you may be contacted by them.

All the project information and details are on the Safe Kids Resource Center. This project requires that the teens actually create the video themselves and submit to their local coalition for consideration. A complete guide and toolkit are prepared and available for downloading to make it as simple as possible for coalitions to participate. Each coalition will receive $100 to give to a local winner. The national grand prize for the winning teen(s) is $1000, and the coalition submitting that video as the overall winner will receive $500.

Here’s a quick video to help explain the project. For all the details, log on to the Resource Center and check out the toolkit with all the necessary pieces such as the coalition guide, social media guides, invitation to participate, project posters, and more. Please let me know if you have any questions about the project, or any challenges with accessing the resources in the toolkit. Good luck to all of you!

You must submit through Northern NJ Safe Kids, so contact KJ Feury Coordinator of Northern NJ Safe Kids at karenjeanl.feury@atlantichealth.org for additional information
