Water Safety
-

Northern NJ Safe Kids/ Safe Communities, the Jefferson Police and Fire Departments, coordinated a Water Safety Program that highlighted Boating Safety and the use of PFDs for the 1st and 2nd graders of the Stanlick Elementary School in Jefferson.

The children moved through 4 stations:

 1. PFD fitting station - Here the children were fitted with a personal floating device that they would keep.

2.  Reach and Throw Do Not Go! - A demonstration on how to throw a rescue ring to someone in danger.

3. What is Drowning?  - The children reviewed how silent and quick drowning could be.

4. Boating Safety - The children learned of the dangers of a prop and where to sit on a boat safely.

The children who attend the Stanlick Elementary  School live in close proximity to Shongum Lake and Lake Hopatcong.  The elements of water safety need to be reviewed and understood by all to minimize injuries in and around the water.

The kids had a great time, and the volunteers enjoyed the day.

This week is National Boating Safety week. Take some time to review water safety with your children.
