How to make your home safe for your children
As we head back in our homes this fall be sure it is a “SAFE HAVEN” for your children.
Look at the Kitchen, Bathroom,Living Room and Bedroom with a critical eye. Review the recommendations from the experts on this on the attched brochure.
Kitchen
- Cook with pots and pans on back burners. Turn pot handles to the back of the stove.
- Keep matches and lighters away from kids.
- Lock up cleaners and other poisons.
- Keep emergency numbers near the phone.
Bathroom
- Watch young kids at all times. Never leave them alone.
- Keep the hot-water heater at 120 degrees or lower. If you rent, ask your landlord to do it.
- Keep first-aid supplies, vitamins and medicine away from kids. Lock drawers and cabinets.
Bedroom
- Take all toys, pillows, and extra sheets and blankets out of your baby’s crib.
- Tie up blind cords and window curtains.
- Keep small items away from kids so they can’t choke on them.
- Make sure the space between crib slats is smaller than a soda can.
- Make sure the crib’s corner posts are the same height as the end panels.
Living Room
- Buy furniture wall straps to attach heavy pieces, like bookcases and your TV, to the walls.
- Tie up loose electrical cords.
- Don’t let kids jump on furniture.
- Put covers on electrical outlets.
Home safety devices such as cabinet locks, smoke alarms, furniture wall straps and outlet covers can be purchased at home stores and baby stores.
